This Picturesque Serengeti Lodge Has Completed Renovations
Lemala Camps & Lodges, East Africa’s trailblazing safari operator, is proud to unveil the completed renovation of Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge.
The enhancements include introducing a new two-bedroom family suite, relocating its spa, and redesigning and extending its main dining tent and reflect Lemala’s approach to evolving its established properties by investing in the guest experience and making better use of its existing wilderness footprints, rather than continual expansion into new areas.

Set among the granite boulders and verdant kopjes of the remote Wogakuria Hill, Lemala Kuria Hills Lodge is immersed in a landscape of rolling grasslands, open woodland, and tree-lined watercourses that supports abundant wildlife year-round. Located near the Mara River, the lodge sits within the main corridor of the Great Migration during the traditional July to October season, while the wider Northern Serengeti offers exceptional wildlife viewing throughout the rest of the year. Further south in the Serengeti, the November to April green season transforms the landscape into a lush, wildlife-rich environment, coinciding with the annual calving season, when thousands of newborn wildebeest and zebra are closely followed by the predators they attract.

“This renovation was about looking at what Kuria Hills already does so well and finding thoughtful ways to enhance it, rather than adding more to the landscape. By reimagining existing spaces, we have been able to create a more flexible offering for families while also improving the spa and dining experiences, all within the lodge’s established footprint,” says Leanne Haigh, CEO of Lemala Camps & Lodges.

The renovation took place during the lodge’s annual March to May closure, enabling Lemala to enhance the guest experience while preserving the intimate character and distinctive landscape that define Kuria Hills. At the heart of the renovation is a new two-bedroom family suite built on the site of the former spa. Designed as a contemporary evolution of the existing accommodations, the suite features modern interiors, generous living spaces, and a private plunge pool, offering a secluded, comfortable base for families or groups traveling together. The new configuration provides greater flexibility for multi-generational travel, allowing families to stay together while maintaining privacy and space.

The addition brings Kuria Hills in line with the wider Lemala Camps & Lodges Tanzania portfolio, which offers two-bedroom accommodations designed for families. Children are welcome at Kuria Hills, and the new suite offers enhanced accommodations for those seeking to experience the region and its wonders together.

The Spa at Kuria Hills has also been relocated to a new location within the lodge’s grounds, creating a peaceful setting for treatments and allowing the former spa site to be reimagined as the new family accommodation. The lodge’s main dining tent has also been redesigned and extended, increasing space and improving the flow between the dining, bar, and surrounding guest areas while maintaining its panoramic connection to the landscape.

The renovation builds on the elements that have long defined Kuria Hills, where glass-fronted tented suites are discreetly set among the area’s huge granite boulders and kopjes, offering privacy and uninterrupted views across the surrounding Tanzanian landscapes. Contemporary interiors are complemented by authentic African touches, and shared spaces open onto the surrounding grasslands. Beyond the lodge, guests can explore the Northern Serengeti on guided game drives, walking safaris, and hot-air balloon safaris, with the region’s relatively low visitor density offering a more intimate experience of its wildlife and wilderness.

With the renovation complete, the two-bedroom family suite is now available for booking, offering families and groups a new way to experience the region while preserving the sense of space, privacy, and connection to nature Kuria Hills is known for.
