A Touch of Wellness, Outback Style

A new chapter in Australian wellness begins in March 2026, when Mt Mulligan Lodge, Queensland, introduces a purpose-built spa and private mineral bathing experience, redefining wellness in the outback.

Mt Mulligan Lodge is a luxury outback resort situated on a 28,000-hectare working cattle station in Tropical North Queensland, Australia, approximately 100 miles or a 2.5 to 3-hour 4WD drive northwest of Cairns. It sits beneath the dramatic sandstone escarpments of Ngarrabullgan.

Positioned on the banks of a eucalyptus-fringed weir overlooking Mount Mulligan (Ngarrabullgan), the new tented spa ensures the vast outback setting remains an essential part of every treatment. Opening with the new season in March 2026 is a new spa and private bathing experience at Mt Mulligan Lodge, further enhancing the beloved Luxury Lodge of Australia’s unique take on wellness in the Australian outback.

The purpose-built spa is housed within an intimate tent design that helps ensure Mt Mulligan’s outback surroundings are a central part of every spa experience.

A member of the Luxury Lodges of Australia collection, Mt Mulligan Lodge is set on a 28,000-hectare site that’s rich with gold and coal rush history and 37,000 years of indigenous heritage. This rich history has informed all aspects of the guest experience, from the daily outback experiences to the cuisine and the property’s original design and construction, which first opened its doors in 2019.

In keeping with Mt Mulligan Lodge’s authentic approach to outback luxury, the spa experience has been designed with thoughtful rituals throughout that ground each visitor in the sense of place. Seasonal native botanicals are infused into the signature foot baths designed as a mindful pause before or after treatments. These botanicals have long thrived in the landscape and are known for their soothing and replenishing benefits.

The treatment menu, curated in collaboration with award-winning Australian skincare house LaGaia mirrors the lodge’s philosophy of providing a wellness experience that is restorative and deeply personal.  Also a trusted spa partner at sister properties Orpheus Island Lodge and Beechmont Estate, LaGaia brings its UNEDITED range of scientifically-formulated, pH-balanced skincare to Mt Mulligan Lodge, harnessing potent vitamins and botanical extracts for results-driven treatments. Guests can personalize their journey with tailored multi-treatment packages designed to enhance both physical and spiritual wellbeing.

At the heart of the spa experience is a one-of-a-kind, private, outdoor mineral bathing pool. The mineral-rich water delivers an array of therapeutic benefits from easing muscle tension and joint pain to improving circulation and sleep quality. The water is solar-heated, and can be set to a suitable temperature anywhere between 2 degrees to 38 degrees Celsius, ideal in the outback climate which can experience extreme high and low temperatures.

“Wellness at Mt Mulligan Lodge has always been about more than spa treatments, it’s about creating a connection to place, to self and to nature” says General Managers, James and Phoebe Egan. “This new spa offering feels like a natural extension of that philosophy”.

Morris Escapes CEO Ross Penegar agrees. “Across all Morris Escapes’ luxury lodges, we’re committed to offering experiences that are deeply rooted in their location and deliver experiences our guests couldn’t have anywhere else. This spa reflects Mt Mulligan Lodge’s distinctive spirit. It’s raw, restorative, and quietly luxurious”.
