Behind the Scenes of Laid Bare, a New Series Set in a Gay Nude Resort

Can you imagine a cross between The White Lotus, Knives Out, and Heated Rivalry—but really, really gay?

Laid Bare is just that: a gay slasher horror-comedy mystery series now streaming on OUTtv. The plot follows ten men at a secluded, clothing-optional desert resort (Palm Springs) who are forced to survive a deadly weekend for a share of an inheritance. It’s a “whodunit” served with full-frontal nudity in almost every scene. Laid Bare blends camp, suspense, and erotic tension with a sharp queer edge. Some diversity (shout out to Marval A. Rex, a transmasc Jewish guy). Some body positivity. And a lot of eye candy. Did we mention the full-frontal nudity?

We caught up with Ethan Daniel Corbett, the award-winning actor and producer starring in Laid Bare as Alistair Lambrakis, the son of a wealthy gay businessman who owns the clothing-optional gay resort in Palm Springs. Fresh off a FilmQuest Best Supporting Actor win for FACES, Ethan brings to life the unpredictable and patrician ginger in this fun, original new series written and directed by Tim O’Leary.

Vacationer: Had you ever stayed at a clothing-optional gay resort before?

Ethan Daniel Corbett: I had not! It was a daunting experience at first, but I am a person who is comfortable in his own skin, so I felt like I could handle it.

What are the pros and cons of staying somewhere clothing-optional for you?

Pros? Well, your suitcase will be much lighter. Cons? Other than the potential sunburn in areas not used to the sun, not many. But seriously, I really do recommend going to a clothing-optional resort at least once in your life. Life’s short. Why not have as many experiences as possible?

When people first think about a clothing-optional resort, there may be a feeling of judgment or even a fear of being judged.  But in my experience, it was very freeing. When you’re exposed to it, it removes the taboo and makes you feel more comfortable with your own body; it changes your perspective to one of celebrating the differences in everyone’s body.

Have any of your real-life vacation experiences ended up in Laid Bare?

Other than the time I was vacationing in Cabo and there was a killer on the loose, not many. Honestly, Alistair and I are very similar individuals in the sense that we are both a bit chaotic (although I’m a bit more chaotic-good while Alistair is chaotic for the sake of it). Alistair loves a good time, and while filming Laid Bare, it was easy to just be me as if I was on vacation with all my friends.

I understand you call L.A. home. What are 5 top things gay Vacationers must do or try when visiting from out of town?

This may be a bit cliché, but I personally love to go dancing in WeHo. I’ll go with friends or with my partner and have a blast dancing. I don’t even drink anymore! I’ll go just to dance!

There are also some awesome nude beaches if you’re willing to drive down to Blacks Beach. Beautiful scenery… the beach is nice too 😉

Go see a show at the Ahmanson Theater! They have amazing tours coming through all the time.

If you partake in Mary Jane, I suggest checking out The Woods in WeHo. A coffee/weed dispensary with a beautiful back lounge area with trees, water features, private cabanas, and exotic birds.

If you want good food, there’s this Indian restaurant in Burbank called “Flavor of India.” It will CHANGE YOUR LIFE.

What destinations have you traveled to for work or leisure and absolutely loved?

I have travelled all over the world for work and for leisure, but hands down my favorite place I have ever been was Switzerland. Absolutely stunning. I stayed in between Interlaken and Lauterbrunen for 2 weeks. The sheer cliffs alone will blow your mind and there is a major base jumping community there.

Every time you look up, there are constantly people falling from the sky, and it is one of the most bizarrely beautiful things I have ever seen

What is left on your bucket list in terms of travel destinations?

I have yet to make it over to Asia. I would absolutely love to visit Japan specifically. I have seen and heard so many great things about Japan and its people that it seems like a place you must visit before you die.
