Get the Aloha Look with This Female Founder’s Hawai’ian Home Décor

NOHO Home by Jalene Kanani brings the look and spirit of Hawai’i into your abode in a transformative way.

If you traveled to any of the islands of Hawai’i, you know the feeling of welcome and relaxation that greets you there—along with a certain aesthetic. Hawaiian style, or Aloha style and decor is characterized by its vibrant colors, bold floral or nature-inspired patterns, and relaxed, organic shapes and silhouettes. NOHO HOME is a brand we discovered after looking at Hawai’i through fresh eyes, and wishing that we could always have a little more Aloha spirit at home. Well, we can! This range of products gives coastal home décor vibes but with a true cultural sensibility.

NOHO HOME aims to elevate your everyday decor to the level that you find when you are staying in a four or five-star hotel in Hawai’i, so that you can come home each day to a relaxed coastal atmosphere offered by these incredibly unique Pacific Islands in the Polynesian Triangle.

The Loʻi Kalo Comforter

And it all starts with the bed—a place you spend much of your time in when traveling or at home. We realized the value of a beautiful comforter and how it can be a work of art in itself, depending on fabric and pattern. So went looking.

In ʻŌlelo Hawaiʻi (Hawaiian language), ‘noho’ means to exist, to dwell or to be from. NOHO HOME home décor products are designed by Jalene Kanani, a native Hawaiian on the island of Oʻahu, and so they have the truly authentic style that you can enjoy with confidence.

After working in local design and architecture, and years of friends and family asking for a line of home goods with her designs, Jalene expanded her consulting company to create NOHO HOME, making the same commercial-quality products available to the everyday consumer. Kanani has focused on offering authentic native-inspired designs for most aspects of your home: flooring, fabrics, curtains, cushions, bedding, and even candles—all the with quality you might find in the commercial and hospitality space.

The Loʻi Kalo Comforter showcases the beautiful Loʻi Hawaiian print which expresses ideas of connection and growth to the ʻāina (land) and to those who cultivate it. Like the kalo (taro) that thrive and propagate in its trickling waters, the loʻi represents a place of nourishment and growth for both the body and spirit.

Here are some of our favorites.

With its giant golden and copper medallion motifs and clean white background, the Maluhia coastal comforter features the beloved Niho print graphically reimagined into a whimsical medallion shape to further emulate the balance of Kū (masculine) and Hina (feminine) energies. This design offers a more linear print and an artful take on ʻohe kāpala and other textural patterns. On the reverse side is another signature of the Duralee Collection, Pili—the ultimate textural fiber visual. The organic nature of this print is a nod to the ʻohe kāpala tradition and weaves the history of its origins into the fibrous texture of this graphic print.

Big, bold and blue, the Hoʻolu Hiamoe Duvet Cover is an elegant bedroom statement piece. The front side showcases the signature design of NOHO HOME. Kanu (“plant”) is the designer’s graphic interpretation of the ʻawapuhi foliage. On the reverse, two classic Hawaiian design elements blend into one. The ʻUpena print is reinterpreted into a new oceanic fishnet design. By off-setting and quarter turning the net design for added depth, it transforms the one dimensional pattern into Hawaiʻi’s signature checkered style known as Palaka.

Complement the surface of your bed or sofa with a selection of pillows and cushions featuring the NOHO pillowcase designs. Bursting with life and growth, the Kī Square Pillowcase in the colors Moss and Ivory bring nature to the forefront of your space with its organic color scheme and plant motifs. Part of the Mauka Collection. Prized by Native Hawaiians for its versatility and multitude of uses, the popular Ti plant serves as the inspiration for the unique Kī print. Ti leaf shapes alternating upwards and downwards create a stylized, yet organic pattern of lines and colors that weave together to form a lei. The Kī print represents the ideology and symbolic intersections of culture, architecture and design.

Of course, the other place we spend a lot of time at is the table, and so it makes sense to take advantage of its large and flat surface to showcase a calming, pleasing, and meaningful pattern on table runners or place mats, should you choose. Set a beautiful table and make a lasting impression on dinner guests with NOHO HOME’s elegant Loulu Table Runners. Pairs perfectly with the Loulu Dining Napkin Sets and Loulu Dining Placemat Sets.

One of the lovely things about checking into a top hotel is the fragrance of the newly-cleaned suite. NOHO HOME has a range of candles and diffusers in florally-inspired scents that offer something unique and different.

Not sure which scent to choose? Start with the Nā Pua ʻAʻala Collection – 3 Votive Candle Set. The puakenikeni flower, or simply “pua,” grown in most Polynesian countries its blossoms are a favorite in Hawai’i for their beauty and alluring scent. Reminiscent of lei-making and her days as a hula dancer, designer Jalene invites you to experience and enjoy a fragrance from her tropical island home. Known as Kiele in Hawai’i, gardenia flowers are popular selections for Hawaiian weddings, proms, lei and beautiful hair adornments. In ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i, the word pīkake translates to “peacock” and is well-known as the favorite flower of Princess Ka’iulani. Like the graceful movement of its namesake bird, the scent of pīkake blossoms dance through the air with a bright, familiar fragrance that is cherished throughout Hawai’i.
