What’s New and Trending in the Mexican Caribbean

Known for crystal-clear waters, white sand beaches, tropical jungle and rich Mayan culture, the Mexican Caribbean boasts a world-class tourism infrastructure, a variety of accommodations options and plentiful air connectivity from major US gateways.

The Mexican Caribbean is like no other place in the world due to its 12 tourist destinations located in the state of Quintana Roo, stretching from Holbox in the north to Xcalak in the south. Those dozen stunning and unique destinations include: Isla Mujeres, Isla Holbox, Costa Mujeres, Cancun, Riviera Maya (Puerto Morelos, Playa del Carmen and Tulum), Isla Cozumel, Maya Ka’an and Grand Costa Maya (Mahahual, Bacalar and Chetumal).

Connectivity, Culture and Nature

With four international airports connecting to 134 cities, a system of ferries, four cruise ship terminals, extensive ground transportation, and 12 train stations for Tren Maya the Mexican Caribbean is the perfect playground for your next vacation.

And while the region hosted 21 million tourists in 2024 who checked in to 136,000 hotel rooms, it is abundant in natural beauty. Did you know that the Mexican Caribbean has 20 Blue Flag Certified Beaches, more than 2,500 cenotes, and 34 natural protected areas?

In 2025, 23 restaurants across Mexico were awarded MICHELIN stars, including 3 in the Mexican Caribbean—Le ChiqueHA’, and Cocina de Autor Riviera Maya—each maintaining their One Star designation from the previous year.

In 2025, the Mexican Caribbean’s esteemed hotels and resorts earned global distinction with numerous accolades from industry-leading awards including 18 MICHELIN Keys and a spot on The World’s 50 Best Hotels (that accolade went to Maroma, A Belmond Hotel, Riviera Maya).

Coming Up: FIFA World Cup 2026

While Cancun is not an official “host city” for any matches, it is strategically positioning itself to be the primary logistical hub for the entire tournament.

Cancun International Airport (CUN) is the only airport in Mexico offering direct flights to all 16 official host cities across the United States, Canada, and Mexico.

Cancun will function as the perfect “home base” for tens of thousands of international fans. Travelers can base themselves at an all-inclusive resort, enjoy the beach and amenities, and then take easy, non-stop flights to watch their team play in Miami, Dallas, or Mexico City, all without the hassle of multiple connections.

Governor Mara Lezama recently announced that two of the region’s most renowned resorts—Fairmont Mayakoba and Moon Palace Cancun—have been officially chosen to accommodate national team delegations, including their coaching staff, families, and media personnel.
