Nashville Musician Angie K is Putting the Latin Into Country

Music and travel go hand in hand, and Salvadoran-born, Nashville-based Angie K knows it well.

Nashville may be home, but country artist Angie K travels and tours extensively, averaging 10 cities a month over the past eight years and playing over 1,000 live shows. She tours internationally, including performances in Central America, and has opened for major acts such as Jake Owen and Jelly Roll, while appearing at festivals such as Country Thunder.

With over 35 million global streams, a community of 500K+ engaged fans, and an established career in country music, Angie K‘s year ahead is packed with more music, touring, and adventure. She just released Low Key Love Song,” the first single from her upcoming album Whiskey & Hemingway, which is arriving later this year.

Low Key Love Song” is a genuine, authentic, and refreshing love song celebrating the ease of simplicity. It’s a welcome addition to the Americana genre from an out queer woman who is also expanding the presence of Latin artists within country and Americana.

Angie says: “The right kind of love doesn’t make you try hard all the time. I hope you hear this one and it reminds you to not overthink things, to know that you are worthy of a quiet, beautiful, intimate love. Sometimes the simplest gestures and moments are the ones we need the most.”

Angie K is shaping the future of modern country music through her own presence—and as co-founder of the Country Latin Association. She’s been a vocal advocate for increased visibility, opportunity, and representation for Latin creatives in Nashville’s country and Americana communities. Born in El Salvador, raised in Georgia, and now thriving in Music City, Angie K continues to inspire a new generation of multicultural artists within the genre.

And the industry is taking notice. Angie K was recently named Artist of the Year at the 2025 Origins Impact Awards and was selected as part of CMT’s Listen Up Class of 2024. Angie has been featured in Rolling Stone as an “Artist You Need to Know” and earned the title of 2025 Best Country Breakout at the Nashville Scene’s Best of Nashville.

We caught up with Angie K to learn more about her and, of course, her love of travel.

Vacationer: Where were you born, and when do you currently call home? What do you miss most about your home country?

Angie K: I was born in San Salvador, El Salvador, and I call Nashville home. I definitely miss the ocean the most. I can almost close my eyes and feel the scratchy fabric of our hammocks and smell the salt in the air. Oh, and big bowls of fresh ceviche that I eat by the spoonful!

What might appeal to Vacationers (LGBTQIA+ travelers) about where you live now? Top few favorite things you like to see and do there, or show to visitors?

Though we don’t have a beach, my wife and I have found so much joy in floating the rivers here. The Harpeth is closest to us in the city, but the Duck River, further south, is also popular. You can float on inner tubes or grab a kayak. We have a cheap inflatable one we’ve used at least 50 times. You don’t need to paddle much and can just enjoy being absorbed in nature. It’s wonderful.

As a Latin artist in the genre of Americana, what has been your biggest challenge so far and how have you overcome it?

I think it’s just having to explain often that the Latin community is incredibly diverse, that we’re so far from being one thing. My experiences growing up in El Salvador aren’t necessarily the same as someone whose family is from Cuba, or someone who grew up in Colombia or Mexico. I’m just one of so many colorful, unique, and beautiful stories that are worthy of being heard. I’m excited and hopeful for a future where the country community becomes unapologetically global.

What travel do you have coming up for the tour, and what destinations are you most excited about visiting?

I’m getting to go to Lakeland, FL, for a show at a massive airshow called Sun N Fun. You can find almost any kind of aircraft you can imagine, from antique warbirds to homebuilts. It’s also a truly family-friendly and affordable all-day event, which I think is a little harder to find these days. I’m also doing a couple of shows in New York City coming up, and I’ve been really craving a Broadway show.

When you travel, what’s on your playlist (music? podcasts? audiobooks?)

I enjoy Diary of a CEO or an audiobook, but I really love listening to full albums top to bottom when I’m on the road. I love Brandi Carlile, Heart, Fleetwood Mac, Jo Dee Messina, Melissa Etheridge, and so many more. Those all have great deep cuts that I love even more than their biggest hits. I still really love the art of a well-crafted album song order.

Do you have a travel ‘bucket list’ of dream destinations?

I love the islands, all of them. I’d definitely like to explore more of Europe and when I really have some time Japan would be amazing to explore. I’ve wanted to go there since watching the Anthony Bourdain episode he did in Tokyo!

Favorite mode of travel: air, sea, road or rail?

Sea! Always!

Window or aisle?

I love the window so much, I’ll always feel so much peace, seeing the sunset from the clouds. Makes me feel small and big all at the same time.

And if you could choose anyone to sit next to who would it be?

If I could sit next to anyone, it would be my wife. We’ve been together 10 years and she’s still my favorite person to experience anything with.

Upcoming gig you would recommend us to attend?

Come see me on the Brooks and Dunn tour!
