A what? A vertical microdrama is a fast-paced, serialized video story—essentially a 60- to 90-minute movie or soap opera—cut into bite-sized episodes lasting just 1 to 3 minutes each. Now, SkyBeach Resort in Florida is the setting for all the drama!
SkyBeach Resort, an independent waterfront hotel in St. Pete, Florida, developed an original eight-episode scripted vertical microdrama centered on an LGBTQ+ couple visiting the resort, where one woman plans to propose to her partner.
Featuring a cast made up entirely of content creators and social media personalities, the series blends romance, travel and scripted entertainment, with the resort serving as the backdrop for the unfolding story.
Rather than serving as traditional influencer partners promoting the hotel from their own feeds, the creators play characters in an original scripted story, with elements of their real-life personalities and talents incorporated into their roles. Their characters’ lives intersect and unfold throughout SkyBeach, weaving the resort’s restaurants, waterfront setting and experiences into the storyline.
The goal is to capture audiences through an entertaining narrative while giving viewers a sense of the SkyBeach experience in a way that feels more organic than a traditional hotel ad.
The project also taps into the growing use of microdramas as a social-first marketing format and shows how independent hospitality brands are experimenting with creator-led filmmaking, LGBTQ+ storytelling, and short-form entertainment to reach audiences through narratives that go beyond traditional travel advertising.
