Fantasia Fair Rebrands Itself as Trans Week

Trans Week, formerly known as Fantasia Fair will return to Provincetown from October 16-23, 2022.

The re-branding of this historic event, celebrating its 47th iteration this year, is more timely than ever as transgender rights continue to be threatened and scrutinized around the globe. Established in 1975, Trans Week is the longest-running transgender-centric event in the world and continues to serve as a model for other transgender conferences.

Part learning experience, part social gathering, and part reunion, Trans Week is a full immersion experience, meaning attendees can and usually do spend the entire week presenting as their authentic selves. Unlike most transgender conferences, this event is not confined to a single hotel. Events and meals are held at multiple locations in order to facilitate community building, no matter where in the town you happen to be staying.

Each day is filled with activities and events to inspire, educate, and entertain you. There are workshops every morning and afternoon, with topics ranging from gender theory to transgender history and politics, to personal grooming and voice training. There are keynote speakers following every lunch, lecturing on a variety of topics pertinent to the trans experience. There are also special events every evening. You’ll learn from community leaders, helpful professionals, and your peers in both formal and informal situations.

This year’s keynote topics and speakers are:

  • All in the Family – I’m Trans and So is My Parent/Child with Sibil and Nick Greiner
  • 2022 Transgender Pioneer Award Presentation and Dancing the Dialectic from Trans Youth to Trans Elder with Rupert Raj
  • Questions and Answers About Medical Transitions with Carolyn Wolf-Gould, MD
  • End of Life Issues for Transgender People with Jude Patton, co-editor of TRANScestors: Navigating LGBTQ+ Aging, Illness and End of Life Decisions: Generations of Hope
  • Under Siege: Trans Rights, Equality, and Policy! with Mason Dunn, Deputy Director of Education and Training at the Fenway Institute
  • The Vagina Dialogues with Pamela Klein, cofounder of Boston Medical Center’s Center for Transgender Medicine and Surgery

Some featured workshops include:

  • A Brief History of Gender Variance on the Stage and in Motion Pictures
  • Being True to Yourself and Your Partner
  • Hacking the Toy Chest: Sex toys, Dysphoria, and Pleasure
  • Town Hall Meeting: Community Responses to Anti-Trans Legislation and Policies

An extra special feature of Trans Week is that they offer activities specifically for partners of trans folx. Couples will find support and friendship while participating in workshops that explore and recognize the ups and downs of their unique relationships.

Another fun aspect of Trans Week is the social events such as the Celebration Banquet/ Dance Welcome Party, the COMMON THREADS Fashion Show, and the Follies, an epic talent show held at the Crown & Anchor.

Access to all these events (and so much more that isn’t listed here) is covered by your registration fee. For those that cannot afford the price tag, there is a scholarship program to help ensure that those who want to be there, can be there. Applications for 2023 scholarships will open on November 1.
