Female-founded Domingo Makes the Best Body Scrubs and Butters

Nothing says luxury and self-care like an indulgent bath, satisfying skin scrub and delicious body butters. LGBTQ+ and BIPOC-supportive brand Domingo is your go-to!

Domingo is a handmade skincare brand rooted in the “slow beauty” movement, encouraging people to pause and reconnect with themselves through meaningful self-care rituals. Inspired by California’s natural landscapes, Domingo crafts high-quality, small-batch products with premium botanicals, creating a calming, nourishing experience that allows individuals to feel at ease in their skin. Domingo’s mission is to provide a sanctuary through skincare, fostering confidence and comfort for those who may have felt disconnected from themselves.

To that extent, Vacationer tested this product on behalf of the nomad at home, who is always longing to wander or to dream of travel and transcendence even when sedentary.

It’s also Women’s History Month, and so we are actively supporting female founders with a mission that matters to us.

Commitment to sustainability

Sustainability and mindfulness matter to us and we were delighted to discover that Domingo uses 100% recyclable packaging and minimizes waste, aligning with its dedication to conscious beauty.

Community conscious

Domingo supports underrepresented communities, including Black, BIPOC, LGBTQIA+, and local New York City communities, creating a positive impact through intentional hiring and partnerships. The brand also embodies the values of the slow beauty movement, which is not just empty anti-aging consumerism but a philosophy to help people develop a sustainable, sensory, self-care practice grounded in nature. Domingo products inspire a sense of wellness through slowing down, connecting inward, and embracing inclusive, sustainable self-care. Love for your community is a form of self-love, after all!

Female founding story

Domingo’s story begins with founder Netta Selene, who, while going through a painful divorce, turned to crafting skincare as a way to find comfort and grounding. What started as a personal ritual to soothe her skin became an outlet for self-care and resilience. In the process, Netta discovered the transformative power of taking intentional time for herself—mixing ingredients by hand, experimenting with textures, and creating products that felt as nurturing as they were luxurious. This hands-on approach to skincare brought an unexpected sense of peace and reconnection, sparking the realization that others might benefit from these same mindful rituals.

Her journey from self-healing to sharing this experience with others led to Domingo. Inspired by California’s natural landscapes and the healing power of botanicals, Domingo emerged with a mission to offer more than just skincare—an invitation for people to slow down, connect with themselves, and discover beauty through mindful self-care. Each product reflects Netta’s vision: that beauty routines can be grounding moments of self-connection, allowing anyone to find comfort and calm in their own skin.

“I really wanted this brand to capture the things that are important to me, there are a lot of tie-ins to Los Angeles, which is my hometown, and San Francisco where I spent a decade of my life. Domingo means Sunday in Spanish, and that’s a nod to the days I’d dedicate to my product making. Our products are inspired by California-related things, like the California Wildrose and the iconic coastlines.”

“I started Domingo when I learned that my body’s stress response is to break into eczema patches. I was going through a stressful divorce that turned my life upside down; my skin’s response reflected the turbulence I was experiencing. I would spend my Sunday mornings making body scrubs and body butters to combat this and found that making time for self-care helped my skin to clear up and lifted my mood as I engaged in something soothing for myself. I want to share these products with others if they, too, need a little dedicated time for self-care.

“All of my products are made by hand in small batches in Brooklyn to ensure freshness. I use only the highest quality ingredients sourced from reputable, trusted manufacturers, and all of my products are in heavy rotation in my own very picky skincare routine. I hope you love these as much as I do.

Vacationer’s verdict

Domingo products are divine! If you are feeling weary and in need of placating your wanderlust but must, for the moment, be a nomad at home, draw yourself a nice hot bath and try Domingo’s luscious body scrubs, followed by a steamy rinse and a good application of the matching body butter.

Coastal body scrub and body butter are two-tone in blue and white and will have you transported to a deserted stretch of coastline and fresh salt spray. This duo is energizing and smells like freedom.

Cashmere body scrub and butter is the one to break out instead of opening that ice cream you have kept in the freezer. Instead, sink into this creamy, lush vanilla escape for a sense of decadent renewal and self-love.

Wildrose body scrub and body butter in pastel pink will have you drifting off to an English country garden in the middle of a summer full of blooming rose bushes and dewy grass. This is an intensely floral and romantic scent. Totally gift-worthy!

Baya body scrub and butter are exotic and fruity-smelling, with hints of spice, sugar, and anise. Inhale deeply and let your mind transport you to a faraway land, perhaps a fragrant night market in Bangkok or Goa. Slightly sweet and shaped into cubes, this is our Domingo pick for travel. Baya solid scrub cubes frequently sell out, and little wonder: they give you a glow on the go, so pack a few so when you check into a suite with a deep tub, you know what to do!

These are all uniquely textured products that hydrate and refine your skin and give you the best sensorial glow-up and de-stress you’re likely ever to have. Why not make every day of the week Sunday?
