New Study Determines Top LGBTQ+ Party Locations in Europe

If you enjoy traveling to enjoy a good party or two, then you may want to know consider checking out The Bottle Club‘s new study conducted to determine the top LGBTQ+ party destinations within Europe and the United Kingdom. Using sites such as Numbeo, Booking.com, DesignMyNight.com, Yelp, Google, and even Instagram, The Bottle club evaluated each city on seven key metrics in order to determine a final score out of 70 for each destination that was used to rank them.

The seven factors each city was measured on were:

  1. Number of bars in the city with a 3+ star rating on Google
  2. Number of LGBTQ+ specific bars
  3. Hashtags on Instagram
  4. Overall Safety score was obtained from analyzing data from Numbeo, a crowd-sourced global database of quality-of-life data such as housing indicators, perceived crime rates, healthcare quality, transport quality, and other statistics.
  5. Hate crime safety scores as determined from Numbeo
  6. Hotel scores averaged from sites like booking.com and hotels.com
  7. Average drinks price score as indicated on Yelp and Google reviews

Each factor was assigned a score on a scale from 1 to 10 and all factors were added up to get a total score for each city.

The Bottle Club’s Top LGBTQ+ Party Cities

Prague with its rich history and old-world architecture topped the list of European cities with a total score of 56.4. There are an incredible 52 LGBTQ+ bars within the city, concentrated within the gay neighborhood of Vinohrady. Data on Numbeo indicates a very low crime rate in the city which really helped put it over the top due to the reassurance it provides LGBTQ+ travelers.

Coming in second on the list is Madrid with a score of 53 and Gran Canaria right on its heels with 52.2. This should come as no surprise to the savvy queer vacationer as Spain has long been heralded as one of the most gay-friendly countries in the world. Ibiza makes an appearance at number 6 on the list and Barcelona is at number 8. Que Viva Espana!

Using slightly different measures, cities throughout the United Kingdom were similarly evaluated by The Bottle Club. They factored in safety, hate crime scores, hotel ratings, Instagram hashtags, and drink prices but did not factor in bar ratings and instead counted TikTok hashtags to come up with a six-prong rating for a total of 60 points.

Coming in first place, Brighton scored exceptionally high in safety ratings. London came in second place scoring perfect 10’s in the Instagram and TikTok measures. Edinburgh came in third and was also deemed exceptionally safe by the data obtained.

The Bottle Club’s Top LGBTQ+ Bars in the UK

The study took it one step further with the UK and managed to rank the top 12 LGBTQ+ bars in the country. Using Google star ratings, distance to public transportation, Instagram followers and hashtags, they came up with a 40-point score system they used for the rankings. The top 3 bars according to their findings were Mary’s in Cardiff, The Viaduct in Leeds, and The Royal Vauxhall Tavern in London.

This study was of course conducted in honor of Pride Month, but it represents a compilation of some great information that is useful to the LGBTQ+ travelers out there that make nightlife a major consideration when deciding where they should visit. The Bottle Club itself is based in the United Kingdom and is “the place for adventurous drinkers looking to discover new flavors and ideas”. Comprised of a team of industry experts and curious drinkers, their mission is to revive the classics and discover new artisan producers. Their site offers an incredible assortment of wine, beer, spirits, and barware.
