How Horizon Guest House Combines Island Romance and Hawaiian Adventure

As we enter the chilly months of autumn and winter, it’s always a good idea to plan a warm-weather escape to some island paradise like Hawaii!  For queer travelers who enjoy a bit of adventure, head to the Big Island to explore the Hawaii Volcano National Park.

While you’re there, we recommend staying at a guest house we love, Horizon Guest House. It’s stunning and located an hour-drive from the National Park.

Horizon Guest House is an elegant, exclusive resort situated on over 40 acres of sloping pasture lands (1,100 ft. elevation) on the side of Mauna Loa, one of the world’s most active volcanoes. Located on the Kona Coast, this guest house is surrounded by McCandless Ranch, which provides guests with privacy and tranquility.

You will experience the warm ocean breezes during the day and the cool breezes off the slopes of Mauna Loa during the night. Enjoy the magnificent panoramic view from every part of the resort, including the custom designed “Infinity Edge” swimming pool and built in Jacuzzi.

When you stay at Horizon Guest House, you will enjoy a generous buffet breakfast in the dining room, main lanai (Hawaiian for patio), pool-side, or on your private lanai. Wherever you choose, you can sip on your morning cup of coffee or eat your fresh fruit plate while taking in the magnificent Kona coastline views.

Picnic coolers and ice are provided for you to take on your adventures around the island. Enjoy the local restaurants or use the outdoor gas barbecue grill to prepare your own meals.

There are four types of suites. Each of the suites has its own bathroom and lanai. They are arranged in a staggered wing with a laundry room located at the end of the wing of suites.

All suites have their own private entry and private lanais with sweeping coastline views looking west, a  great position to watch the sunset! The honeymoon suite has a queen bed, but the other three have king beds. Other room amenities include a refrigerator for late night snack or to store the fresh fruit or produce you discover on throughout your island adventure! Also, there’s a coffee press and electric kettle for early morning coffee or tea, and a ceiling fan, even though there is usually a cool, gentle, evening breeze coming down the mountain from the upper slopes of Mauna Loa.
