Same-Sex Marriage Legal in Mexico’s Yucatan

Love is love! And now, engaged same-sex couples can now get married in Mexico’s Yucatan state. Mérida, Tizimín, and Valladolid are just a few popular cities located in the Yucatan and Yucatan Peninsula, and they are now options – in addition to other popular cities like Puerto Vallarta – where queer couples can exchange their vows legally.

Same-sex marriages are recognized, and happy couples will now receive the same rights as citizens who reside in the state. The law went into effect on Friday, March 4, 2022, less than a year after the state’s Congress approved marriage between two people of the same sex.

And now, couples get to enjoy the Yucatan, which is a romantic destination by nature. From the crystal-clear cenotes to soft white sand beaches to the colonial-era buildings and sleek architecture – all of these venues offer the perfect setting for the commemoration of love without restrictions.

Whether it’s a traditional Mayan ceremony, a beach wedding, a tour of a charming Pueblos Mágicos (Magical Towns) and hacienda gardens or saying “I do” in the most exclusive boutique hotel, Yucatan is ready to celebrate the love of queer couples.

If you always imagined the most special day of your life with your partner in paradise, Yucatan is one of the perfect places to celebrate it. If you are looking for large buildings that keep incredible stories, the haciendas in Yucatan are the ideal place, because each of them has its own charm. This shortlist of haciendas will help make your long-awaited wedding day extra special because they are the true reflection of Mexican traditions and are the perfect setting to exchange vows and commit to the love of your life.
