Surprising Fall Travel Trends

After we all return from our Labor Day excursions it will officially be Autumn, well, at least as far as the travel industry is concerned. September 6 through December 1 is considered the fall travel season according to the experts at Priceline and they’ve supplied us with some interesting data for this year’s fall travel trends.

For instance, roundtrip flight searches have doubled, and hotel searches are up an amazing 46% for fall travel compared to 2021. The increase in activity is likely attributed to the relaxation of COVID restrictions and the easing of testing requirements by the industry in addition to the stabilization of airfare, which had seen extreme spikes over the past few months due to high demand and limited staff, not to mention the spike in fuel costs.

There seems to be a marked interest in international travel with the hotspots being Munich, Dublin, and London as hotel searches for these cities are up 10 times from last year. There is also a boom in interest in travel to Asia with flight searches up four times over last year.

This is not to say that interest in domestic travel has dwindled any, quite the contrary actually. Top trending destinations with the largest year-over-year search increases include San Juan (+207%), Honolulu (+134%), and Houston (+123%), in addition to the queer capitals of Miami (+119%), and San Francisco (+108%).

Looking forward to the holiday season, experts advise that we book our flights now since prices for the time period were at their lowest in September and October 2021. You can save even more money by taking advantage of Priceline’s End of Summer Sale which has been extended to September 4 and is valid on travel booked for any time.

So, while it’s sad to see the summer go, it looks like have a fabulous fall ahead filled with travel, adventure, and savings! Have at it Vacationers!
