The Beekman Hotel, Old World Charm in New York’s Financial District

Named the No. 1 hotel in New York City by U.S. News & World Report, The Beekman Hotel – located at 123 Nassau Street in New York City’s Financial District – is known for its old-world charm and new-world amenities. 

First opened in 1881 as the Temple Court, the building was one of the city’s first skyscrapers. Its stunning atrium was used to house offices for lawyers, advertising agencies, publishers, and architects for decades.

Before the Temple Court was built, the location was the site of the Chapel Street Theatre, known for holding New York’s first performance of Shakespeare’s Hamlet in 1761. It was also the site of Clinton Hall, a literary salon of sorts where poet Edgar Allan Poe worked.

The rich history of The Beekman is carried throughout the building, as it feels both old and new. It is topped off with a trendy location in a neighborhood known just as much for its endless brigades of suited bankers and investors during the day as it is for its lively nightlife.

The Beekman is also known for its on-site restaurant, Temple Court, which serves high-end food and cocktails by chef Tom Colicchio.  

Within walking distance from many tourist destinations, such as the Brooklyn Bridge, One World Trade Center, and Wall Street, the hotel’s location in the Financial District is ideal for both business and leisure travelers. With several subways close by, other areas of the city are easily accessible. It is also surrounded by a variety of restaurants, shops, bars, and tourist attractions, making it a much sought-after location.
