This Summer, Experience a New Norway with 50 Degrees North

From open minds to open vistas, Norway appeals to LGBTQ+ travelers due to its high safety standards, progressive rights, and deeply ingrained culture of equality, inclusivity, and sustainability.

Norway offers a welcoming, socially liberal atmosphere with vibrant queer scenes in Oslo and Bergen, and stunning natural wonders and experiences.

As travelers increasingly seek more thoughtful and immersive ways to explore the world, 50 Degrees North has introduced a new small-group journey through Northern Norway and the Lofoten Islands that reflects its long-standing approach to travel design.

Known for designing authentic, meaningful, and high-quality experiences that balance iconic landscapes with lesser-known places, the company has shaped the Summer Journey in Northern Norway & Lofoten as an experience-led alternative to rapid, checklist-style itineraries.

Traveling through coastal Northern Norway, the itinerary is structured as a single northbound journey from the mainland port town of Bodø to the Lofoten Islands and on to the quieter landscapes of Senja. Along the way, travelers encounter fishing villages and coastal communities where daily life remains closely tied to the sea and the long light of the Arctic summer.

Designed around thoughtful pacing and the rhythm of the midnight sun, the eight-day journey follows coastal routes and carefully chosen transitions that create a natural sense of flow. A Norwegian Coastal Ferry voyage from Bodø to Lofoten replaces a flight, turning travel time into part of the experience, with daylight sailing along the coast and dinner served on board.

The itinerary reflects 50 Degrees North’s emphasis on combining the well-known with the less travelled. Guided visits to Saltstraumen and historic coastal sites sit alongside time in traditional fishing villages, while accommodation is selected for character and sense of place rather than convenience. Stays at Kvitnes Gård and Hamn in Senja are intentionally positioned as anchors, encouraging travellers to slow down and engage more deeply with their surroundings.

Although compact in length, the journey is designed to feel unhurried through structure rather than duration. There are no one-night headline hops, and the pacing of each day aligns with the expansive evenings of the Arctic summer, when experiences naturally stretch beyond the clock. Travel itself becomes part of the story, shaped by season, landscape and local life.

Summer Journey in Northern Norway & Lofoten sits within 50 Degrees North’s portfolio of small-group and tailor-made journeys across the Nordic region, defined by locally grounded partnerships, careful pacing and a commitment to meaningful travel experiences that place people and place at the centre of the journey.
