New Luxury African Safaris Tailored for LGBTQ+ Travelers

Adventurous queer travelers now have a new option to see Africa’s incredible wildlife in their natural habitat. African Travel Inc., an award-winning, luxury safari outfitter, will host its first group of LGBTQ+ solo travelers, couples, and groups, along with their extended families, next July for a customized Pride Safari.

Curated with everyone in mind, the 10-day President’s Family Safari will include a trip to Cape Town, an opportunity to spot the Big Five on a game drive, and a trip to see the jaw-dropping Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe. The travel company personally vet lodges and camps that focus on LGBTQ+ inclusion and sensitivity. So, travelers feel safe while enjoying this trip of a lifetime.

“LGBTQ+ travel is personal for me, having grown up in Africa and lived through some of its most horrific times,” said Banda. “Every one of our team members was either born in Africa, lived in Africa, or traveled to Africa multiple times, so when we say, ‘We Know Africa,’ you can depend on us to match the right Africa with the right client, like LGBTQ+ travelers.”

Personalized Pride Safaris have been a passion project for Sherwin Banda, president of African Travel, Inc. He believes most people don’t think of Africa as welcoming or inclusive for the LGBTQ community, but the fact is that destinations such as South Africa legalized same-sex marriage in 1996 before the U.S. followed suit in 2015. Featured this year as one of Robb Report’s 16 LGBTQ+ Visionaries in Luxury, Banda says this is an important company-wide initiative, which boasts a network of LGBTQ+ travel specialists.

African Travel Inc. also offers a 10-day South Africa’s Natural Wonders safari, which includes a visit to the Grootbos Private Nature Reserve and the Shamwari Game Reserve. And the 11-day Experience South Africa experience offers queer travelers a mixture of the country’s culture, art, wildlife, and beach escapes.
